A statement from Cllr Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways & Strategic Transport on behalf of the Cheshire West & Chester Council Labour Group.
In Cheshire West & Chester green waste collections have been suspended until 1st March 2021. Covid-19 is impacting council staff up and down the country and Cheshire West & Chester Council is no exception.
During emergencies like flooding or pandemics, council staff change roles, focusing on protecting communities and helping vulnerable residents. Some of our staff are having to self-isolate, adding to the service disruption. The suspension of garden waste collection protects the household waste service which residents rely on.
The Council wants your views on the future of the waste collection service, you can take part at https://is.gd/zLhsJj. Two options are being considered, which would bring us in line with our neighbours, make the service more cost-effective and also reduce carbon emissions.
Remember that councils are under more pressure than ever, with 3% of the proposed 4.99% Council Tax increase ringfenced for adult social care. Funding for basic services is just about keeping pace with increased demand, find out more at https://is.gd/6DUtBq.
