An autism charity, based in Wirral and West Cheshire, is to hold a special Remembrance Day service this November, within historic Bromborough Pool Village.
Autism Together has organised the service to commemorate members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty. The event will take place outside the village’s former church building on York Street.
Last year, the charity was gifted the Grade-II listed St Matthew’s Church building. The church was closed for worship in 2007 and is now used to provide music sessions for autistic adults accessing the charity’s services.
The service, which is free for the public to attend, will be conducted by a local vicar, Rev Jenny Gillies from St Barnabas Church, and will take place on Monday, 11th November, starting promptly at 10.45am.
At 11am there will be a two-minute silence, followed by a rendition of ‘The Last Post’. This will be performed on electric guitar by two of Autism Together’s staff members, Alex Harris and Christopher Mitchell, who support autistic people to play music in the former church.
As part of the service, the vicar will also say a dedication over the village’s war memorial, which the charity recently had refurbished.
Richard Whitby, CEO of Autism Together, said:
“As part of our public consultation around what people would like us to bring to the village, the public made it clear they wanted action taken to repair the war memorial, and for more community events.
“So, we’re very pleased to be able to invite the local community to join us for this very special event on Poppy Day to remember the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. We hope to see many of you there.”
Autism Together has a free car park within the village, located next door to its Bromborough Pool Café & Shop, at The Green, CH62 4TT. The Café also has toilet facilities and refreshments for sale.
The Remembrance Service is the first in a series of upcoming events for Autism Together, including the return of its popular autism-friendly grotto experience and a carol concert, coming to Bromborough Pool Village this December.
Further details about these events will be released via Autism Together’s website:

Autism Together is a charity and specialist service provider, employing over 800 staff to support more than 400 autistic adults and many more families, through services in Wirral and West Cheshire.
Founded in Wirral in 1968 by a group of concerned parents, our services now cover residential care, supported living, day services, respite, children and family services, along with specialist autism training.
Bromborough Pool Village was created as a model village for the workers at Prices Candles, and pre-dates nearby Port Sunlight. The village is an important hub for the charity, hosting a range of residential and day services, along with a café and shop.
At Autism Together:
-
We understand that every autistic person is unique, so we work with each individual to help them overcome the difficulties autism presents them with, helping them to lead a happy and fulfilling life.
-
The people we support can learn diverse skills in activities such as woodworking, painting, ceramics, swimming, cycling, trampolining, and more.
-
We have our own rock band, farm, café and shop.
-
Over the past decade we’ve won a variety of awards for our range of services for autistic people.
