A Chester dance group can hit the dancefloor after receiving a donation from a local housebuilder.
Commodores Colour Guard, who practise at Chester Catholic High School, received £900 towards new flooring from Redrow’s community fund, linked with its Kings Moat Garden Village development on Wrexham Road.
The dance group performs a competitive and athletic programme of theatrical productions, which combine music, various dance styles, choreography and props.
With a team of more than 25, aged between five and 25, the Commodores perform to audiences and adjudicators throughout the UK but needed to purchase a practice dancefloor before it welcomes new members.
Karen Muskett, director of Commodores Colour Guard, said:
“We’ve been going since 1973 and our organisation is a positive all-inclusive environment where individuals are encouraged to be themselves. Our members show extreme dedication to the organisation and work hard at a number of rehearsals each week.
“We were crowned British WGUK A Class Champions earlier this year and off the back of that we have recently received requests from local families to join. Before we welcome more members, we needed a new dancefloor to cater for the higher numbers and protect the floor. Redrow’s kind donation has solved this issue.”
Amanda Hollins, area sales manager at Redrow NW, said:
“We’re so pleased we could help the group to purchase this essential piece of equipment. Being part of this group is a great way for members to socialise, learn new skills and experience the joys of dancing and it’s lovely to see what a wonderful community they’ve built between dancers and their families.”
