Chester Women were eliminated from the Cheshire Cup at the Semi Final stage on Sunday, putting in a brave effort in defeat to higher league Stockport County.
The Blues, playing opposition two leagues above, got off to the perfect start as the in-form Ellie Bradley stole possession high up the pitch before brilliantly firing into the top corner from 25 yards.
Chester were resolute and organised in their defensive display, and when called upon late in the half Vienna Doherty made a strong save from a header as the hosts went in one up at the interval.
But Stockport battled back in the second half, as they equalised on 57 minutes courtesy of a strong run into the box and good finish, before a free kick from the edge of the box with just ten minutes to go found the top corner.
The Blues were unable to take the game to penalties as the Hatters advanced to their fourth straight Cheshire Cup Final.
