A group of friends and colleagues from Chester firm Business Comparison will trek 30 miles, later this month, to raise thousands for an “inspiring” young girl currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
The group of four will walk from New Brighton in Wirral to Chester in a bid to raise funds for Paul Jones and his daughter Freya, aged nine, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year.
The walk on July 18 will aim to raise £10,000 – to support the Jones family with the financial burden that comes with Freya’s ongoing treatment, including travel costs to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, as well as physiotherapy sessions and other care expenses.
A GoFundMe page has been set up on behalf of Paul, who is a Commercial Manager at BusinessComparison, and his family, and has already raised over £2,000.
Paul said any funds raised will be a “huge help” with the emotional and logistical challenges the family face as Freya undergoes complex and intensive treatment far from home.
He said:
“The support we’ve received already has been overwhelming,”
“Freya is such a brave, inspiring girl and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated or sent kind words. This walk means a lot to our family, and I’m so thankful to my colleagues for doing this.”
The walk will take the team the length of the Wirral peninsula from New Brighton to Chester, covering a scenic but physically demanding route.
Philip Brennan, Founder and Managing Director of Chester-based BusinessComparison, a leading price comparison website said:
“When Paul told us what he and his family were going through, we knew we wanted to do something to help,”
“The walk is a small gesture, but we hope it can make a big difference. We’re encouraging anyone who can to donate or share the fundraiser.”
