In celebration of World Book Day, on Thursday March 6th, Broughton Shopping Park is welcoming book enthusiasts of all ages to make the most of its ‘Little Library’, a free community book swap initiative.
Now in its second year, the pop-up library aims to inspire the local community to read more by offering access to a wide range of books free of charge.
Since it launched, hundreds of novels across various genres have been exchanged by local readers.
Located in the foyer outside Costa Coffee, visitors can choose a book from the shelves to take home to enjoy before returning it or replacing with a fresh read to keep the cycle going.
Alan Pruden-Barker, centre manager for Broughton, said:
“We know how important reading is for people of all ages, helping to expand horizons, spark imaginations, and support overall wellbeing.
“We’re proud that we can offer our local community the chance to discover new books for free, while giving their unwanted books a second life, and it’s fantastic to see how many people continue to pick up, swap and donate books at our Little Library.”
As well as visiting the Little Library, young readers can head to Asda Living at Broughton to redeem their World Book Day token in exchange for a free book until 23rd March.
Broughton also supports the local community to read through its award-winning Young Readers Programme initiative which is sponsored by Broughton’s co-owner British Land and run in-partnership with the National Literacy Trust.
The programme is designed to encourage children to read outside of the classroom and since launching at Broughton, it has supported more than 2,900 school children and seen more than 8,800 books donated across Chester and Flintshire.
