Chester Pride may have been cancelled this year due to Covid-19, like all major events, but the hard work and planning for 2021 is already underway.
Chester Pride has joined forces with two of Chester’s well-known drag acts Lady Wanda Why and Shagger, along with The Chester Centurions RUFC, to raise funds for Chester Pride with a sponsored walk. They hoped to be joined by some special guests on a 30 mile walk from Talacre, North Wales to Chester City Centre. They aim to raise funds for Chester Prides annual events in 2021 and their 6 charitable projects currently being launched throughout 2020. The big walk takes place on Sunday 20th September, members of the public are encouraged to visit the Just Giving page and donate from as little as £2. Chester Pride would also like to thank Arriva Buses Wales for helping us safely transport our Drag Queens and the Chester Centurion Rugby Team from Chester to Talacre for the start of the walk. Although the original plan was to invite members of the public to join in, Chester Pride has had to restrict the numbers taking part so that everyone can safely socially distance. They ask, instead, that you support from home by donating and posting on their social media pages live Facebook feeds from the event will be broadcasted thought the day on Chester Prides Facebook page.
“We are pleased to be teaming up with two of Chester’s well-known drag queens and The Chester Centurions RUFC who are Chester’s first all-inclusive sports team, something we are very proud to see in Chester and a group who were grown from Chester Pride. It is a true testament to the city and its acceptance for equality and diversity, something we are continuing to help grow and developed in Chester and the wider area. We are looking forward to walking with the team plus some special guests who we will be announcing via our social media pages over the coming weeks on the run up to the big walk on Sunday 20th September 2020. The Queens and the rugby team will be walking from Talacre, North Wales to Chester City Centre Chester over the course of one day which is expected to take around 9 to 12 hours to complete. Both Lady Wanda & Shagger will be in their usual full glamour wear but with suitable footwear to ensure they complete 30 miles safely. Chester Pride has 6 projects that you can find more information on via our website www.chesterpride.co.uk and how they are truly helping people in our community” said Chester Pride Chair Warren Lee
“In 2018 the IGR did a tour of the UK Prides to promote inclusion in rugby. Chester Pride was one of the prides where many of our players including myself were told about the inclusive rugby team being set up in Chester. So, without Chester Pride we partly would not be here today. Chester Pride and the centurions have always had a very strong working relationship and the Chester Pride logo now takes pride of place on our new kit. It is an honour for us to be helping raise money for a great cause” said Andrew Foxall Chair of the Chester Centurions RUFC
