Book swapping and a quiz for World Book Day at Council libraries

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s libraries will be swapping thousands of new books in return for book tokens for World Book Day on Saturday 7 March.

Schools all over the borough will be distributing the book tokens to children and young people as part of the annual event and they can visit their local library to swap them for one of this year’s books. 

The normal time for the giveaway will be 9.30am to 12.30pm, readers are advised to check with their local library in case of variations.

The list of available books is wide-ranging, from Bing and Supertato to books by Captain Underpants author Dave Pilkey, and more complex reads like “Split” by Muhammad Khan.

A special World Book Day quiz will be also available in all Cheshire West libraries on the day, with the chance to win a £10 book token.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Wellbeing said: “World Book Day is an event many children always look forward to, perhaps dressing up as their favourite character at school to show their love of books.  Swapping their book token at their local library adds to the fun.”

A limited number of this year’s books to swap for the book token will be allocated to each library, so copies of all of the books will also be made available to loan via Cheshire West and Chester Libraries Service.  Joining is free of charge and simple, with no need for identification. Children need the approval of a parent or guardian to join.
