Chester stretched their unbeaten run to four games this afternoon with an important win at Guiseley.
Declan Weeks was on the scoresheet, his third goal of the week, before Darren Stephenson sealed it late on.
Steve Watson made one change from Tuesday’s draw at Gloucester City, as Kevin Roberts replaced Rowan Roache, who dropped to the bench.
Guiseley had an early chance as Kaine Felix nipped in ahead of Louis Gray to a ball over the top, but the excellent David Fitzpatrick was back to make an important intervention.
Moments later, Weeks created space for a shot on the edge of the box, but it flew just wide.
Nevertheless, the midfielder didn’t let them off the second time and opened the scoring on 15 minutes. He received the ball from Matt Sargent before smashing one into the back of the net from 20 yards out.
One almost became two on the half hour mark in a scrappy affair.
George Glendon’s excellent through ball found the run of Matty Waters, but his sidefooted effort was stopped by the foot of ‘keeper Owen Mason.
Guiseley had the first chance of the second half after good build up play from back to front, but James Gale’s attempt across goal was off target.
They went closer moments later. Felix sent a dangerous ball across goal which was begging for a touch, but no Lions player was there to convert.
Guiseley forced the Blues back deep, much like Gloucester did in their midweek second half fightback, but this time Chester were able to nullify their opposition.
And Stephenson made it safe late on as he cut inside and rifled home from Weeks’ pass on 88 minutes.
