Chester FC were held to a point at the Deva Stadium by a resilient King’s Lynn Town side this afternoon.
Charlie Caton opened the scoring after 17 minutes from close-range before Jonny Margetts equalised with a header just before half-time.
Declan Weeks volleyed the first chance of the contest over the bar after a well-flighted Kurt Willoughby long throw was headed into the midfielder’s path.
The Blues took the lead in the 17th minute through Charlie Caton from inside the six-yard box.
Tom Peers set Caton up with a low cross that caused problems for the away defence who failed to clear and allowed the number ten a simple finish from close-range.
There was a lack of goalmouth action after the opener, as both sides struggled to create in the windy conditions.
Caton could have scored his second just after the half-hour mark but his hooked effort bounced wide after another accurate long throw delivered by Willoughby.
The Linnets equalised with their first effort on target when Jonny Margetts latched on to a dangerous free-kick and headed past Elyh Harrison from close-range.
The second half was played in similar fashion to the first, a contest of few chances at either end.
Calum McIntyre’s side held the initiative after the break though, and Jack Bainbridge had an early sight of goal but his header looped over the bar.
Caton almost doubled his tally mid-way into the second period, when his strike was deflected and almost spun into the bottom corner, but Patrick Boyes was equal to it in the King’s Lynn goal.
Peers also went close with a low, drilled effort that whistled past the post.
The last fifteen minutes was fairly quiet as both sides battled for control in the midfield.
Dylan Mottley-Henry showed positive signs after he replaced Willoughby in the second period, but it came to nothing late on as both teams had to settle for a point.
The Blues continue their festive action on Boxing Day with a trip to Marine before a New Year’s Day clash with Southport.
