Cheshire’s Road Safety Group is launching a campaign to remind everyone who uses the road to take extra care on their journeys.
The group has representatives from Halton, Warrington, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester Councils, Cheshire Constabulary, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Highways England, working together to reduce the number of people killed or injured on Cheshire roads.
This campaign is set to launch as the clocks go back and daylight hours are shortened – a time where visibility is decreased and people using the roads become more vulnerable.
Road Safety representatives from the group will be hosting a number of engagement events and school sessions all over Cheshire to remind everyone about how to stay safe when using Cheshire roads.
A launch event will take place Monday 27th October in Halton at Victoria Park in Widnes. Representatives from the group will be passing out essential tips, advice and information, safety freebies as well as staging safety demonstrations.
Rose McArthur, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Director of Transport, Highways and Chair of The Cheshire Road Safety Group, is backing the campaign to amplify the importance of staying safe when using the roads in Cheshire.
Rose says:
“It’s critical to remain vigilant on our roads, especially at this time of the year when visibility is reduced. Everyone who uses the road has a part to play so, whether you’re a driver, motorcyclist, cyclist, rider or pedestrian, there’s something you can do to make sure you are safe and seen.”
Councillor Karen Shore, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways added: It’s great to be hosting an educational event to support this campaign at the Groves in Chester on Wednesday, 29 October between 11am and 2pm.
“Keeping everyone safe on roads in Cheshire West and Chester is our priority and this partnership works year round to make sure we’re reaching all road users in as many ways as possible. Everyone has a responsibility when it comes to road safety, and we’re committed to reducing and preventing road casualties.”

Group representatives from each local authority will continue their regular visits to schools in Cheshire, reinforcing these safety messages with young people. Road casualty data* shows that the number of child pedestrian casualties doubles between the ages of 9 and 11, with incidents more likely to happen during drop-off and pick up times.
In addition to the engagement events and school sessions, a series of road safety tips will be shared on social media during the months of October and November - to follow the conversation use #BeBrightSafeSeen.
