The Aspray Chester Deeside Dragons has announced the signing of American forward Jake Witkowski, marking a significant milestone in the club's growth.
Jake brings an impressive pedigree, having played alongside NHL stars like Trevor Zegras and Brady Tkachuk. Previously competing in the NIHL—a league above the Dragons—he averaged just under two points per game over the last two seasons. His impact was immediate; after arriving in the UK on Friday and meeting his new teammates just three hours before face-off, he debuted against the Widnes Wild on 22 September 2024, scoring six points (three goals and three assists) in a 7-2 victory.
Jake's arrival comes at a pivotal time for the volunteer-run, not-for-profit club, which has rebounded strongly after the 2020 rink closure due to the pandemic. Since returning to the ice in December 2022, attendance has surged, and the junior programme is thriving.
Looking ahead, Jake and the Dragons have the opportunity to secure their first silverware of the season in the Welsh Cup against Cardiff Fire on 28th September, following a thrilling 5-5 draw in the first leg.
Fans can catch Jake's home debut on 6th October, when the Dragons host the Sheffield Scimitars at The Den, Deeside Ice Arena.
