Rivacre Valley Country Park and local nature reserve has had some footpath resurfacing works, which has revitalised and expanded the extensive network of pathways available.
In total over 300 metres of pathways have been widened and upgraded and information notice boards have also been installed to tell walkers about the wildlife and nature around them.
New picnic benches have been put in following requests from people wanting to enjoy a family picnic in the drier months to soak up the atmosphere of this wonderful greenspace on the edge of Ellesmere Port.
Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins, said: “Although the warmer months will soon be with us, winter is actually a great time of year to use these pathways to explore Rivacre Valley, and other greenspaces, as the vistas have opened up and the woodland structure is taken back to its bare form.
“If you’re local to the park taking a short walk for your daily exercise there can promote positive mental health by helping you to sleep better, connect to nature and enhance your connection with your local area.
“In the winter it may seem like nothing is happening relating to wildlife and nature but quite suddenly you can be surrounded by dozens of birds of many species and now the green shoots of snowdrops and bluebells may be peaking out of the ground in sheltered spots. Strolling through can be a revelation to a world of fungi, ferns and delicate mosses.”
It is hoped that these improvements and widening of these footpaths will encourage more people to increase their physically activity as more routes are now convenient, safe and attractive to use.
