Officers marked nearly 100 bikes during a crime prevention operation in Chester at the weekend.
The irremovable QR stickers that were put on pedal and electric bikes as part of a roads safety event organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council to enable their owners to be traced if the bikes are ever lost or stolen.
The owners were also given free lights, locks and bells, as well as important crime prevention advice.
The operation began in the city centre on Friday 25 March and ended at the Northgate Arena the following day.
Chester City Beat team officers and PCSOs spoke to bike owners of all ages about the importance of keeping them and their other property secure.
To enable their bikes to be returned by the police in the event of them being recovered, the owners provided their contact details.
The bike models and frame numbers were also recorded by the officers who were using security marking kit to help crack down on bike thefts in Chester.
The operation was part of Chester’s Safer Streets 2 project.
Detective Inspector Danielle Knox, the project lead, said: “It was a fantastic weekend in which we marked as many bikes as possible while also meeting members of the public and hearing their concerns.
“Those who attended on the Friday or the Saturday engaged with our local officers and received some important information on how to best keep their property safe from would-be thieves.”
“I want to thank everyone who came out to support the event and for their contribution to the efforts of crime prevention in the local area.”
This type of event is being rolled out in different areas with each Local Policing Unit promoting their bike marking days on the social media accounts.
