Nonagenarian Chester resident and tech whizz, Jim Hinde, has never let his age get in the way of him using the latest technology to its fullest.
97-year-old Jim worked for the former Shell oil refinery in Ellesmere Port as an engineer travelling all over the world trouble shooting for the company. As an engineer there is always an interest in wanting to know how things work, and so using technology has come naturally to Jim.
Jim happily uses his tablet and laptop daily to Facetime his family, including his two grandchildren and one great grandchild, who all live over 10,600 miles away in Australia. He is also adept at buying almost everything he needs online from eBay and Amazon, except for his weekly food shop.
Jim, who receives support at home from Home Instead Senior Care Chester, said: “I love Home Instead, their service is marvellous, they really care and go above and beyond. They are like friends to me.”
Co-owner of Home Instead, Sue Broadbent said: “We have been so impressed with Jim’s ability to use his tablet and laptop which has been so important in staying in touch with his family. Jim is not very mobile, so we do believe that the combination of receiving his daily care visits, which are helping him to stay living happily in his own home, and his ability to use the latest technology prevent him from feeling lonely.”
Recently, Jim celebrated his 97th birthday with the help of his Home Instead caregivers and neighbours, who arranged a surprise ‘social distancing’ birthday party for him.
Sue continued, “It’s so wonderful to see someone like Jim not being put off but embracing his long life and happily using technology which has helped him stay in touch and make his life easier.”
