Council tackles anti-social behaviour issues in Bunbury Green

Cheshire West and Chester Council has worked with partners to help residents in an area of Ellesmere Port that had been plagued by anti-social behaviour.

Bunbury Green in Ellesmere Port required specific policing, with local youths causing significant anti-social behaviour related problems for residents.

A new path with street lighting has been created, along with CCTV coverage, making it feel a lot safer for residents, particularly at night or during the darker winter months.

The project has been funded by the Council, the Community Safety Partnership, the Police and Crime Commissioner, Cheshire Fire and Rescue and Riverside Housing.

The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport said: “Anti-social behaviour can have a hugely detrimental impact on the lives of local residents and I believe this project will make a real difference.

“By improving the lighting in this small area and creating the new path we can help to deter people from committing offences and make local residents feel safer in their community.

“Following the completion of this scheme we will continue to work closely with partner agencies and local residents to help improve the area to help make Bunbury Green a better place to live.”

Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer: “The issues around Bunbury Green have been long-standing, with crime and incidents in this area contributing to significant anti-social behaviour related problems. The physical design of the area has made policing it a big challenge for the Ellesmere Port team over many years.

“This has all been made by possible by a multi-agency approach to tackling these issues and whilst financial investment was needed to kickstart this work, we should also celebrate the hard work of the partnership”

Next week (from 18 July) will see the start of Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week and the Council and its partners will be arranging events and activities across the borough to raise awareness of anti-social behaviour, its effect on communities, and how we can all play our part to report it to make a difference.
