Buckley Shopping Centre is set to become greener, more welcoming and vibrant, thanks to funding through the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and the vision of a local community group, Shelbys Place CIC.
The funding secured by Flintshire County Council’s Regeneration team, as part of its Town Centre Investment Programme – Flintshire, has enabled the purchase of 10 high-quality large planters, manufactured by local company R & G Landscaping, supporting local skills and the regional economy.
The planters have been filled with a variety of plants, seeds and bulbs supplied by Daleside Garden Centre in Hawarden, further strengthening local supply chains and ensuring seasonal interest throughout the year.
Beyond enhancing the visual appeal of the shopping centre, the project places strong emphasis on community involvement and long-term sustainability.
The planters were filled on Thursday 12 February and will be maintained ongoing by Shelbys Place CIC, a local business based in the Buckley Shopping Centre along with support from a keen group of volunteers who are committed to cleaning up and greening Buckley Town Centre.
This collaborative initiative demonstrates how targeted investment through the Shared Prosperity Fund can deliver environmental improvements, support local businesses, and bring communities together, all while creating a greener and more pleasant town centre for residents, shoppers and visitors alike.
Sharon Beck said:
“We are committed to providing the Community with a Safe Space where anyone can access support, in a friendly environment.
"We provide sustainable groups and activities, and we also promote pride in our community for all abilities to join in, there’s a job for everyone."
At its heart, Shelby’s Place CIC operates as a community hub and social enterprise. It helps foster community engagement in Buckley by promoting local talents, offering a welcoming place for residents and visitors, and contributing to community-focused activities and initiatives. Their volunteer group offers opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in rewarding voluntary gardening activities, supporting wellbeing, social connection and pride in the local environment.
