The ageist language, however casual, keeps alive the myth that life after 40 must be worse than we expect. To change the way we think about ageing, we need to change the way we talk about ageing. So, let’s start paying closer attention to the language we use and hear every day.

This time the lifestyle journalist, Michela Di Carlo, founder and editor of crunchytales.com, the first illustrated online magazine for those ladies who don’t let age define them, will bring our attention to the latest ‘Ageist Britain Report’ results and the power of casual ageism language on triggering stereotypes.

Running the event ‘Crunchy Talks: Tales From Midlife Journeys’, Michela will shine a spotlight on the issue of casual ageism and the impact it has on our society, with the help of a diverse panel of inspirational women, from different backgrounds and expertise.

Jo Moseley
She learnt to paddleboard in her 50s after menopausal symptoms gave her serious anxiety and knocked her confidence. Jo Moseley, 54, is a mum of two sons and lives on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales is the first woman to SUP the UK coast to coast. Happiest in a wetsuit, she is an advocate of tiny adventures in the sea and hills for our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. She does a 2 Minute Litterpick each day and her next goal is to train to become a Stand-Up Paddleboarder Instructor.

Jane Ashton
Her innate need for style is born out of a love for visual storytelling and self-expression. Following years of serial property renovation and motherhood, Jane Ashton qualified in interior design at KLC in 2009. Since then she has concentrated on interior styling and regularly had her work featured in the media. She is strongly drawn to drama, glamour, romance, bygone eras, travel, exploring the unexpected and the slightly surreal. This intoxicating mix of influences shapes her aesthetic. Fashion styling is the new string she added to her bow.

Sioned Jones
She has worked in the not-for-profit sector for 20 years and is currently CEO of The Circle, an NGO founded by Annie Lennox that brings women together to empower some of the most marginalised women and girls across the globe. She is also a Trustee of the child right’s charity Child to Child. Previous to this she has held senior management roles at Oxfam, RNIB and The Mo Farah Foundation.

Eileen Willett
A London based entrepreneur and fashion illustrator, she helped start up the Nicole Farhi Menswear brand and ran her own women’s accessories business before launching -at the age of 50- together with Nancy Zeffman, ‘Cucumber Clothing’ a brand of revolutionary sustainable sleepwear and loungewear that use cutting edge fabric technology to help maintain even body temperature.

Codilia Gapare
An entrepreneurial breast cancer survivor, she has revolutionised the beauty industry by creating the first-ever false lashes range for chemotherapy patients called ‘C Lashes’. Codilia won several awards including Entrepreneur of Excellence at the National Diversity Awards, Beauty Category at the EVAs and has been nominated for the Woman of the Year 2019. C-Lash has been voted one of the 50 Prima High Street Heroes 2019.
