7th October 2011

I’m alive! Have no fear!
Although it has taken me a little while to reply Ive not stopped thinking of you all, at the moment of finding my feet and my way. When I arrived here I felt like things were really way above my head.
The ship as a whole is just huge, at first when I saw it it really did take my breath away.
I left you in the hotel room before pick up at 7am, we were taken to Southampton- on board there are over 70 nationalities of staff, just under 2000 in total and there are 87 English people. Its strange, for the first time in my life I felt like I was in the minority but over the past 10 days my eyes have been opened so much, we are all the same because we are all diffrent.
What is lovely is that when you walk around the ship everybody smiles and says hello. It doesnt matter who you are, what your job is and what rank you are- everybody is equal. Theres one hell of a lot of soul searchers on board and I guess Im one of them.
My room mate is just lovely, she is from South Africa, sharing a cabin that is barely bigger than my down stairs loo at home is challenging, Im on top bunk! Im half living out of my suitcase because in true female style I over packed!!!!
I have to change so many times a day…..day clothes, formal clothes, uniform, casuals….its mad! I need my mum on board to come do all my washing!
The sheer size of the ship is absolutely incredible, there are 14 floors in guest areas, there is everything from a running track to an ice skating rinc, a full sized theatre, rock climbing wall, a golf course, surf school….as well as a full shopping mal which is made to look like an old fashioned street, its gorgeous.
Theres one heck of a lot of work to do, my job is an entertainment host which means that I have to be here, there and everywhere and know the ship inside out (Im still waiting on that one!!!) So from bingo calling to performing in the shows, from waiting on theatre doors to pub quizzes and karaoke Im there. Today I was even the library attendant! – Probably worth not asking!
Its so lovely to be able to dress up in our formal wear, Ive still lots of choreography to learn and with my 2 left feet goodness only knows how it will turn out! I’m gonna call it bringing personality to a performance!
We work long hours and we’ve had a lot of intense training over the past few days which means that Ive not really been able to get off the ship. The route that we’re on at the moment takes us from mainland spain to Portugal and round the Canary Islands and then back to Portugal and a different side of Spain on the return. Really looking forward to exploring next week but even more so to get back to Southampton to go to Primark and go to the chippy!!!
The food is good, we crew have a seperate area to guests which actually does resemble the staff quaters on the film Titanic!!! There is a lot of fun to be had and the one glass of wine per night has shot out of the window after all Ive found a Welsh drinking partner who would make Chester proud!
Im sticking to the rule of not using elivators so when you see me in April I will have a rather toned bottom!
The ship is so big it weighs more than 82,000 fully grown elephants (not including me!)
Looking forward to life boat training! Being thrown into the sea by some hunky man and being rescued must have its plusses!
Thinking of you all.

Charlie xxx
