Chester FC’s quest for a FA Cup run took them to The Shay, last night (9th October), to face FC Halifax Town in the Third Qualifying Round Replay, after the teams couldn’t be separated at the Exacta Stadium last Saturday afternoon.
John Worthington opened the scoring for Halifax, after just five minutes, and Neil Gregory secured a second goal for The Shaymen soon after the break. Marc Williams pulled one back for The Blues seven minutes later but a third goal, this time from Chris Worsley, sealed Chester’s fate. The Blues were down to ten men for most of the match after Michael Powell was sent off for violent conduct.
So, Chester FC bow out of the competition and Halifax Town move to the next round of the FA Cup where they will face Lincoln City.
Meanwhile, Chester FC return to Blue Square North League action, on Saturday (13th October) when they are away to Bishops Stortford. Kick off is at 3.00 pm and, as usual, there’ll be full coverage in Dee 106.3 Sport, with David Sanderson, from two till six.
